Wedding + Portrait Photography: Emotion in Pictures by Andy Lim

Here’s a very practical guide for photographers who wish to get into wedding photography. If you’ve ever tried to shoot a wedding and attempt to emulate the work of the pros whose work you follow, you would realize that wedding photography is deceptively difficult. When I started out, nobody told me what I should be looking out for in each scene in a wedding ceremony or reception, I figured it out from trial and error.

Written by professional wedding photographer Lauren Lim, Simple Wedding Photography is a downloadable e-book that walks you step-by-step through the process of shooting a wedding. You’ll also learn how to start, and run, a successful wedding photography business.

First off you’ll get a 200 page beautifully designed PDF, filled with practical information you can use. Written in a casual manner, like a conversation with your photographer friend, and packed with over 220 photos, diagrams and examples to help you see the concepts in action.  You can view the tutorials on any computer, or your iPad. I found its interactive navigation very unique, making this a valuable reference to use over and over again.

What I found particularly useful was a complete client wedding album design showing how they orchestrate the storytelling from start to finish. There’s even a sample album with a video screencast commentary, a Wedding Day Worksheet, Wedding Prep Checklist, Wedding Day Shot List, Post-Wedding Report Card and a Brand Identity Worksheet to help figure out the message behind your brand. Infinitely useful tools, even if you’re not shooting weddings.
